South Sudan: Epicentre recruits an EPIDEMIOLOGIST (M/F) based in Juba -South Sudan- for 12 months

The main purpose of the epidemiologist position is to guide and inform evidence-based strategies for routine operations; guide operational planning around thematic areas of interest; enhance timely and high quality routine and emergency data reporting, and analysis; and ensure high quality epidemiological response to outbreaks/emergencies.

Job activities

  • Provide analytical oversight of thematic portfolios.
  • Support surveillance, in collaboration with coordination team, other partners, and other MSF epidemiologists in country.
  • Support emergency/exploration capacity (preparedness, response and rapid assessment).
  • Enhance quality of routine data (including training of medical teams & building capacity; Designing and updating tools, conducting small investigations as needed).
  • Support advocacy and advisory tasks.
  • Coordinate inter-sectionally with epidemiologists from other sections.
  • Support medical research occasionally.

Profile requirements

  • Degree in epidemiology, public health, or related (degree must include relevant epi training) / biomedical or clinical background strongly preferred,
  • Fluent in English, good knowledge in French is a plus,
  • At least 2 years’ experience implementing field epidemiology, experience implementing field research desirable,

Experience:

  • In aid sector, or humanitarian situations
  • With infectious diseases and/or tropical medicine
  • Implementing rapid assessments and/or surveys
  • With monitoring and evaluation of routine health data
  • Previous Epicentre or MSF experience is a plus

Technical knowledge:

  • Data management systems & analytical software (e.g. Excel, Epi-info, Epi-Data, RedCap, Kobo; STATA, SAS, SPSS, R),
  • Spatial analysis and software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS),

Qualities:

  • Strong capacity to operationalize epidemiological findings (through direct implementation or guidance of operational teams)
  • Skills in teamwork, cooperation, flexibility, and stress management,
  • Able to manage competing priorities; management experience,
  • Commitment to MSF/Epicentre principles.

Conditions

Full-time position of 12 months, based in Juba with extensive travel to the field projects when necessary.

Remuneration according to experience and MSF/Epicentre remuneration grid.
