The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Research Associate on a consultancy basis.
The Position: RTBFoods Work Package 1 aims to understand the drivers of trait preferences and the development of multi-user RTB product profiles. It provides evidence on the preferences of RTB product characteristics for different user groups in the food chain, and identifies the factors that influence these preferences, in order to support the capacity of RTB breeding programmes to be more demand-led. Such an approach will improve dissemination and acceptability of RTB products.
The consultant will acquire and document new knowledge on user traits and preferences, and gender issues in broader food systems for RTB crop products to inform demand led RTB breeding programs. He/She will also develop user product sensory profiles and process documentation which will in turn inform high throughput phenotyping platform development, product testing and varietal evaluation.
Key responsibilities:
- Finalize sweetpotato and potato processing reports.
- Draft sweetpotato and potato consumer diagnostic reports.
- Update the boiled sweetpotato product profile to include findings from processors and consumers.
- Draft the boiled potato product profile.
- Clean and upload datasets on RTBFoods website.
- Contribute to finalizing potato and sweetpotato IJFST manuscripts.
Selection Criteria:
- At least a MSc. in Food Science or related field.
- At least 6 years of relevant work experience required in similar position.
- Advanced level of MS Office.
- Advanced knowledge of database work.
- Advanced field data collection, statistical data analysis and interpretation and manuscript writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight and strict deadlines and produce quality outputs.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.
What are the conditions?
This is a national consultancy position limited to Ugandan nationals and permanent residents only. The consultancy will be for a period of 8 months.
